Being and Doing...

These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.
Matthew 7:24-27

As a kid, the sandbox is a pretty awesome place. In Sarala's case, is probably even awesome-er due to the purple and pink Crayola sand that she's rockin' in her sandbox. This regular occurrence of me sitting out in the yard with Sarala while she plays got me thinking about something.

Life is meant to be enjoyed...not suffered through until heaven. I don't watch the news much anymore because of the focus on all of the negative happening around us daily. Instead, I'm really trying to look for God working in the ordinary, in the people I encounter, and in the stuff I spend my days doing. The verse above comes from Matthew...when Jesus was laying down some major truth on how to live. I love the language here...about how if we take what Jesus is saying...God's way of life for us...they are foundational words. This foundation will throw us into what God is doing...which can be scary at times...but a life well lived will be the result.

So, enjoy life...and
if you're playing in the sand
...get out...! Unless it's an actual sandbox of course...then have at it!
